Batiks 2017-18

Bubbles of Earth / Batiks, New York 2017-present
Beeswax, indigo, natural dyes, and pigments on cotton and silk.

This ongoing series is a materialization of two years research in both Indonesia and northern Norway. In these two places I studied in depth the traditional decorative technique known as Batik (wax resist) and also the use of indigo and other natural dyes to create visual meditations which explore my own spiritual relationship to the natural world. Throughout this process I have been reflecting on transformation and more specifically how the Earth transforms itself: tectonic shifts, volcanoes, and other geological activities.
